Eilat at Last Call: A Spontaneous Southern Getaway

Eilat at Last Call: A Spontaneous Southern Getaway

Eilat is a destination built for planned vacations, yet it is exactly where a last-minute booking can pay off. The city has thousands of hotel rooms, and on any night that is not a peak night, especially Sunday to Wednesday, some of them stay empty. An Eilat hotel would rather sell such a room at a real discount than leave it vacant, and that is the opportunity for anyone willing to decide on the same day.

When is it worth grabbing Eilat at the last minute?

The best opportunities come when demand softens, and the pattern in Eilat is fairly predictable:

  • Midweek: the gap from the weekend is the biggest. Sunday to Wednesday are the golden days.
  • After holidays and school breaks: the day after a long holiday is usually very quiet in the city, and hotels work hard to fill rooms.
  • Shoulder seasons: in spring and autumn the sea is still warm, the weather is perfect, and occupancy is lower than in summer.
  • Last-minute cancellations: even in high season, a room that frees up in the morning can show up at noon at a nice discount.

On weekends and school holidays the picture is the opposite: demand is high and the selection shrinks fast. You can still find a deal, but you need to decide quickly when one appears.

Where to stay: North Beach, city center or Coral Beach?

Eilat's areas each have their own character, and with just one night in town the choice matters.

  • North Beach and the Lagoon: the heart of the action, with the promenade, restaurants, a mall and most of the luxury hotels. The right choice for most visitors.
  • City center: close to everything at a friendlier price, within a reasonable walk of the beach.
  • Coral Beach and the south of the city: quiet, facing the coral reserve. Perfect for snorkeling and relaxing, less so if you want nightlife.

You can see the full selection on the Eilat hotels page, including what offers a deal for tonight.

How do you get there at short notice?

Spontaneity also needs a way to get there. A flight from Ben Gurion Airport or from Haifa to Ramon takes about an hour, and the drive from central Israel takes around four hours, with a lovely stop at Mitzpe Ramon or in the Arava. If you decide at noon, both options are still on the table. That is exactly why deals that open at noon and close at midnight suit Eilat so well: you book a room, and within hours you are on the promenade. A tip for drivers: leave after the midday rush, and the drive through the Arava at sunset turns from a drawback into the best part of the day. And if you are flying, remember that last-minute flights are sometimes cheaper midweek too, for the very same reason hotel rooms are.

What should you check before booking?

Three quick checks save you from surprises: what is included in the price (breakfast is nearly a must in Eilat, and a heated pool matters in winter), the latest check-in time if you land in the evening, and whether there is parking if you are driving. In Eilat it is also worth making sure the hotel is close to the beach you want, since the difference between North Beach and Coral Beach is a quarter of an hour by car.

What can you do in one day in Eilat?

Even without planning, a single day in the city fills itself. If you arrive in the afternoon, start with an hour at the sea or the pool before sunset, continue to dinner on the promenade or at the marina, and finish with a night walk along the shore as the city lights up. In the morning, get up early. The sea at seven in the morning in Eilat is a completely different experience, quiet and clear. Then choose:

  • Snorkeling at the Coral Reserve: one of the most accessible and beautiful reserves in the world, a short drive from any hotel.
  • The Underwater Observatory: the safe choice with kids, especially in the heat of the day.
  • A short hike to Mount Tzefahot or Nahal Shlomo: a view of four countries in a single morning hour, in the cooler seasons.
  • Or simply nothing: a towel, a book and a comfortable chair facing the Red Sea. You deserve that too.

Late checkout, one last good meal, and on the way north a stop at Mitzpe Ramon for sunset over the crater. A day that feels like a week.

And where does Nightel come in?

Every day Nightel gathers the rooms that have freed up for tonight at hotels across Israel, including Eilat, at reduced prices. Deals go live at noon (Israel time) and close at midnight, and each booking is for one night only, the coming night. You open the Nightel app, see what is available tonight in the city, and book in a few taps. The site shows discount percentages only, and the price itself is revealed in the app. If you want to understand the mechanism first, the How it works page explains everything, and our timing guide will give you the edge at last call (what Israelis call "dakah 90", the 90th minute).
